CAN GEYRAN
SEASHELL CENTER
A keen seashell collector, Kemal Geyran is exhibiting some of his collection in the CAN GEYRAN SEASHELL CENTER at Dragos, Istanbul - TURKEY

This center is dedicated to his beloved son CAN GEYRAN, who passed away during a paintball game in October 2007, while he was studying at the VirginiaTech University, U.S.A.
In the CAN GEYRAN SEASHELL CENTER, about 300 seashells from different seas are displayed in a 400 sqm building. The aim of the Center is mainly to promote sea culture and underwater life by presenting  seashells, an important  factor of the underwater fauna
and to create a social place where the collectors can meet each other  and share their knowledge and experiences.
In the collection  of this non profit center there are more than 1000 species from all over the world and also a library containing more than 500 publications at the visitors' service.
At the Center, seashells are displayed thematically at different sections with various presentations. The main themes are:
General information on seashells,
Classification and properties of the classes,
History,
V
arious uses by mankind (food, money, musical instruments, dyes, medical uses, tools, personal adornment, art & architecture, etc.)
Admission is free of charge.
The Center is open between 11 am and 5 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.
On other days and hours it will be open by appointment.
